Public History: North Caney Creek rises a half mile west of Posey in northwestern Hopkins County (at 33°16′ N, 95°41′ W) and runs southeast for fifteen miles to its mouth on White Oak Bayou, two miles northwest of Weaver (at 33°11′ N, 95°26′ W). The creek is intermittent in its upper reaches. It traverses flat to rolling terrain that is surfaced by clay and sandy loams. Local vegetation includes water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
