Community History: “Richardson Chapel Church of the Living God is located on John Richardson Road. Black farmer Ben Richardson sold 27.5 acres of land to C.C. and Lucille White in 1914 for $350. At that time, the Richardson community did not have a church or school. C.C. White set up a brush arbor on the land of the community founder’s widow to teach Sunday school, and later got a license to preach from Baptists in Nacogdoches. As White described “”We held church in people’s houses that winter and the next summer I built us a church house. We called it Richardson’s Chapel.”” The settlement was “”peddling distance”” from Nacogdoches, allowing White and his family to sell produce and meat in the city. A church congregation that began in Center Point moved to Richardson and built a church building in the community in the early 1940s. It was later moved to Nacogdoches – that congregation is now Shawnee Church of Christ.”
