Community History: The Union Hill community, near Irene, TX, had a church called Union Hill AME Church. According to Mrs. Alva Porter and her daughter, Connie Hicks of Pelham community, the church has been torn down and all that remains of the community is a cemetery (Union Hill/Richland cemetery at the intersection of NW 4300 Rd and NW 4270 Rd). The cornerstone of the church was found in an antique store in Hubbard by a woman from the Pelham freedom colony. The cornerstone is now preserved at the Pelham Community History Museum at 22535 FM 744, Hubbard, Texas 76648. Attached is a photo. The engraving on the cornerstone indicates that the Masonic lodge of Pelham placed the cornerstone at the Union Hill AME Church in 1912.
