Community History: “Siloam, east of the Mulberry community on the Smith plantation (with a Texas Historical marker), originated in years after the Civil War when Black families began to own land. Among these families were those of Sam Smith, Milton Fitzgerald, Zack Hill and James Choice. Originally the “”slave cemetery””, the location was also site of a school and church named Siloam.

Today the cemetery name is “”Union”” with a Texas Historical Cemetery marker noting the merge with a nearby Bell Fountain church and cemetery. Annually May Day (first Sunday) is the occasion when people from far and near return for a mid-day meal, a program in the (now Union Baptist) church and fund-raiser for upkeep of the cemetery. The church is the 1870 structure having been relocated twice.”
