Public History: “NOTE: The Texas Freedom Colonies atlas map, as of Sep 20, 2019, indicates a different location for the Alum Creek colony, several miles EAST of the city of Bastrop. Future research at the Bastrop County Clerk’s office may more clearly indicate the colony’s probable location.

History: Located 18 miles west of the city of Bastrop, near Tom Alexander’s property. Settled some time after 1870. Mr. Alexander donated the land for the Mt. Pleasant church

There is an historic document attached to the Alum creek dot on the Atlas between Bastrop and Smithville. Of the three dots choose the lower one after you zoom in and click the attachment link which is blue. The document describes the Alum Creek colony on Mt Pleasant Rd near Cedar Creek original location of the Mt Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.
