Public History: “History: Located two miles south of Smithville, this community seems to have been established through the efforts of Nathan Griffin. After trying other sources to purchase land for freed slaves, he was finally able to come to an agreement with an individual if all members of his group would purchase land from that seller. This group agreed and upon settlement founded the Colorado Baptist Church.
