Public History: “History: The community centered around an old cottonwood tree. The tree’s shade served as the original location for church services. Some of the first black landowners were Ben Jones, Millie Hicks, Mr. Black, Joe Grimes, T. A. Arnold, Mr. Murray, Mr. Young, Richard McGee, Timon Walker and March Williams.

Families: Arkalo, Arnold, Black, Breeding, Flowers, McGee, Crimes, Hicks, Hodge, Jones, Marshall, Murray, Ockleberry, Pearson, Walker, Williams, Wilson, Wright and Young.
