Community History: The Flemming Memorial Cemetery THC marker indicates that the cemetery began as a slave cemetery on the Fleming Plantation. Adjacent to the cemetery is a white cemetery, church, and tabernacle collectively known as Jeffrey Cemetery. That so many descendants were buried in the Fleming Cemetery suggests the presence of a nearby freedom colony but I’m not sure what it was called or where it would have been.
