The tiny community of Woodville is located about a mile west of Farm Road 2962, six miles east of Rusk in eastern Cherokee County. This African-American settlement was founded sometime after the Civil War, and farmers, including many sharecroppers, lived in the area. In 1884 Woodville had a school, and Benjamin H. Tucker served as teacher. By the 1930s houses, two schools, a church, and several businesses were in the area. The community still appeared on maps in the 1990s, but the 2000 census recorded only twenty residents.
