Public History: In 1882, the Reverend M.C. Henson gave land to a group of believers who were interested in building a place to worship. They were Jerry Bryant, Hannah Bryant, Frank Johnson, Tena Johnson, Dave Polk, Green Polk, Lizzie Polk, Georgia Stephens, Green Stone, and Ada Stone. This group organized the church and named it Henson Chapel Episcopal Methodist church after the first pastor. The church carried on its Christian ministry through church auxiliaries, such as home and foreign misisons, church school, musicals, worship services, and continuing Christian education programs. The loyal and dedicated work of the officers and members made these programs successful.”
