Public History: Independence Springs is also known as Independent Springs and Blue Creek Community. Independent Springs CME Church is located on Independence Springs Road. In 2020, the church merged with St. John CME Church in Sherman.
The Mirabel (Mirabelle) Rosenwald School was also located in this community, shown on maps just south of the church. It was a two-teacher school built 1930-31.
Blue Creek Cemetery, also known as Independence Springs Cemetery and Ida Cemetery, is nearby on Boddie Road.
