Public History: Historical Hoover was on what is now U.S. Highway 90. It was likely named after Dan C. Hoover, the original grantee of the land in 1846. The Hoover school opened in 1879, combined with Nashes Creek school in 1922 and was changed to the Wolters-Nixon Colored School.
