Public History: York Creek, also known as York Creek Ridge. The community centered around a school built by German immigrants in 1854. The post office opened in 1886, and by 1890 the town had a grocery store, a general store, a cotton gin, and twenty-five inhabitants. By the 1940s everything had closed, but the church, cemetery, and some dwellings remained.
