Community History: Canaan Baptist Church and Community were founded in 1870. The church will celebrate it’s 150th anniversary on November 8th, 2020. The current location of the church is about 1/2 mile south of the original site. In or about 1935 the Canaan Elementary School, which was a Rosenwald school; was burned to the ground by Klansmen. The church was threatened if it was not moved. The Old Canaan Cemetery is now on private property and we are having a hard time negotiating with the current landowners to gain permanent access.
