Public History: Hopewell, a farming community eight miles northwest of Pennington on U. S. Highway 287 in east central Houston County, was established before 1900. In the mid-1930s the settlement had a church and a number of houses. Although after World War II many of its residents moved away, in the mid-1960s the community still had a church, a school, and a few widely scattered houses. In the early 1990s Hopewell was a dispersed rural community. In 2000 the population was twenty-two.
