Public History: Post Oak is a rural community located along Farm Road 180 about twelve miles east of Giddings in southeastern Lee County near the Washington county line. This settlement probably began in the late nineteenth century or early twentieth century as an African-American community. County highway maps of the 1930s showed Post Oak School, a cemetery, and numerous dwellings located along a stretch of road. No population estimates were available until 2000 when Post Oak reported 100 residents. The community had the cemetery and Post Oak Baptist Church.

Post Oak is also known as Sunnyside – the Texas Historical Commission Atlas has the name of the cemetery as Post Oak – Sunnyside, and notes it appears as Post Oak on some maps and Sunnyside on others. The cemetery is .83 acres and located behind the church.”
