Community History: Sandy Point in eastern Lee County began near the confluence of Brushy Creek and East Yegua Creek. Whales Clemons & Sarah Kellough-Clemons played a major role in its development and they donated the land for the cemetery in 1895. Sometime before 1959, Sandy Point AME Church relocated to what is now FM 141 southeast of Dime Box. There a new cemetery was also established. The earlier cemetery is known as Shady Point. Sandy Point AME Church is active today.
