The name has been called Dugan according to local Luzella Richard who passed at the age of 103 years old in 2015. She is featured in the Documentary “Colored Folks Conroe Style” by Carl White.

Carl White began his video interview with local elder people in the Conroe Community in 2006.

The Dugan community was a thriving Black community. Hotel /boarding houses, grocery stores, beauty parlors, Gulf Service station, Cab company, barber shops, restaurants, drive in silent movie theater.

Clinton Morris, born 1908, Bryan Texas , died 1968, Conroe Texas, residence was 406 North 6th St, and owned a Grocery store per his death certificate, buried in Rosewood.

R Q Franklin, born 1903, Montgomery County Texas, died 1978, residence was 1123 Ave F, and was a Club Owner per his death certificate, buried in Rosewood.

Beverly Randolph Lewis wife Mary Nobel, parents of Beverly Randolph Lewis Jr , listed on Jr birth certificate is Hotel Proprietor, they also had a cab company.

Lee Corrigan, born 1893, Montgomery County Texas, died 1938, residence Conroe, and was listed on death certificate as a Barber in Conroe list his occupation as waiter in hotel & wife is Annie Griffin.

Bessie Fisher Henry , born 1902, died 1989, buried Jasper Memorial in New Waverly, listed as wife of Sherman, and resident on 415 Ave J. they owned a restaurant and store.

Teola Durden, born 1896, Evergreen Texas, died 1964, Conroe Texas, residence was 504 Ave H , owned an Ice cream parlor, and buried at SandField-Evergreen San Jacinto County.

In 1892, Rev. P.A. Northington and a band of belivers organized Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church because there were no missionary Baptist Church in the area.

In 1935 Rev. James Washington and Rev. J.H. Talford agreed to merge Mt. Olive and Central Missionary Baptist, thus First Missionary Baptist was born.

Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, located in the heart of the Dugan Community was organized in 1901 by Rev P.A. Northington. Services were held in a small house before purchasing a home site. In 1903, the first building was erected.
