Public History: Peters Prairie is five miles southeast of Clarksville in southern Red River County. It was named for nearby Peters Prairie, where Stephen Peters reportedly sent his slaves for timber and game. From 1945 through 2000 the population of Peters Prairie was reported as forty. The settlement often appears as part of Petersburg on maps of the county.
