Community History: Cold Hill, also known as Coldhill, Cole Hill, and Coles Hill, is a community on CR 384 northeast of Tyler, Texas. Cole Hill CME church is located on this road at this location. Clyde McQueen’s “Black Churches in Texas: A Guide to Historic Congregations” lists Cold Hill CME on CR 384 and dates its founding to 1887. USGS maps of Smith County show Coldhill Church at this location, and shows Coldhill School nearby. Other sources call this community Cole Hill or Coles Hill. A 1935 Tyler Journal article describes the upcoming opening of the Coles Hill community club house for use in home demonstration activities.
