Kings’ Village

Public History: In the early 20th century, the approximate 100-acre property was owned by African Americans Alonzo King Sr., and his wife Sara. In 1930, Alonzo King, Jr., and his wife Ida, purchased the property from his parents. Reportedly, Ida acted as a developer and subdivided the area into losts in 1946. Additional lots were subdivided, and the area water was provided from a local well until 1962. A review of historic aerial photographs indicates little development in 1954. The streets were not yet constructed, and there appeared to be only one residence. The only house may have belonged to the developer Ida King and her husband Alonzo King, Jr. The homes that are located in the area now have irregular setbacks and front yard fences and heavily wooded areas.
