Community History: There were 25 Negro communities(1938): Second Corinth, St. Paul, Harpe, Pleasant Hill, Long bridge, Mt. Olive, Brookshire, Patterson, Lane view, Center Hill, Waller, Wyatt Chapel, Pointer, * Monaville, Bob Burton, Lake view, * Harmaro, Ashberry, Cremens, Yanes. The 2nd Corinth community was notable because farm was purchased by Manuel Colman who was a black truck grower in1938. Hempstead is also significant because it was the states leading industry in watermelon and shipping points. At the time it’s population was 2,000 and is principally a retail market and shipping point with good rail and highway connections.
