Daniel Porter on April 17, 1906 opened a boarding school Brenham School and Industrial College (BNIC). This became the gem of the community. Include in the curriculum was theology training which Edd Jefferson attended.

In 1908 a group of Christian men formed the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Association of Texas (the Association) . The purpose to form an organization to unite the black churches in the Brazos Valley Area. The Association held their meetings at different churches. Looking for something permanent they began holding their meetings on the grounds of the BNIC. When the BNIC fell into financial problems the Association took over the mortgage BNIC closed their doors in 1929., The first name of the settlement after the civil war was Post Oak Grove.
Post Oak Grove Church was organized in 1897 by Edd Jefferson to service the spiritual needs of the community. The name of the church was changed to Post oak Missionary Baptist Church in 1941.
